In his final Formula 1 race for McLaren, Carlos Sainz finished in P6. Combined with Lando Norris' P5, that was enough to secure third in the Constructors Championship. The Spaniard was pleased to end his McLaren career with a good result before moving to Ferrari

"Very happy for everyone. I think we deserve it. We haven't been third quickest all year. This is the best way to sign off the season," Sainz told Sky Sports after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Sainz was placed under investigation for an incident in the pitlane. He said: "I was trying to be as safe as possible in the pitlane. I haven't done anything I haven't done before."

It was confirmed before the season started that Sainz would replace Sebastian Vettel in 2021. The Italian team struggled in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but Sainz is looking forward to the new challenge at Ferrari.

"I am feeling great. It's been an incredible two seasons for me. I am happy to be part of this team that is always getting better and better. I have obviously a new challenge ahead of me that I can't wait for to be honest. But right now it's time to celebrate with McLaren and enjoy and reflect and we celebrate probably P3. The team is going in the right direction," Sainz added.
