Jos Verstappen: "I think we are a bit behind schedule"

Max Verstappen won the last race of the 2020 Formula 1 season, but missed out on the chance to become the youngest world champion ever this season. Jos Verstappen believes that they are slightly behind schedule.
Not yet for Verstappen
Verstappen made his F1 debut in 2015 and was the youngest ever race winner. After victory on his debut for Red bull Racing in 2016, the Dutchman still had years to become the youngest World Champion ever.
Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be so easy. Since his debut for Red Bull Racing, Verstappen has not yet been able to make the step to the top. As a driver maybe, but his team still hasn't been able to build a car that would allow Verstappen to compete for the title in a season.
Verstappen is behind schedule
"It is of course nice to win the last race in this way, also for the feeling of all the people in the factory. This gives an extra boost after all. But I think it's even more important that we win the first race next year. That indicates that you have a car with which you can compete. That's what we have missed a bit this year," Jos Verstappen said to Motorsport.com.
"I think we are a bit behind schedule. But then I'm talking purely about Max's ability. I think Max has been ready for it as a driver for much longer, but everything has to be right. The whole picture. As long as it happens in the end. Rather quickly, of course, but as long as it happens in the end."
