Lewis Hamilton has at last been knighted and from now on will go through life as Sir Lewis Hamilton. The Brit made a big impression this season and also off the track. He also left that good impression on Toto Wolff.

Hamilton has taken an important step this season with its seventh world title and record number of victories to become statistically the greatest driver of all time. Only an eighth world title would free him from Michael Schumacher, but Hamilton's performance is already very strong.

Hamilton knighted

''Lewis is one of the best drivers of all time and the most successful British athlete of his time. The whole world has long valued him for his sporting achievements and this year he has combined that with his strong voice in the fight against discrimination. He was a pioneer in every field this year," says Wolff according to Speedweek.com.

According to Wolff, it was therefore a good moment to hear that Hamilton has really been knighted by the Queen. ''The news that he has been knighted shows that he is getting the recognition he deserved for his unparalleled success in the sport. England can be very proud to have such a champion and an ambassador of the calibre of Sir Lewis Hamilton," concludes the Austrian.
