Stefano Domenicali has started as CEO of Formula 1 and immediately has a lot of work to do. The Formula 1 calendar, for example, is not yet finished, but Lewis Hamilton's contract negotiations are also an important issue.

Ferrari back to the top

Domenicali has been the new CEO of Formula 1 since the start of 2021, succeeding Chase Carey as the leader of motorsport's premier class. As the former top executive of Ferrari, he is of course also looking to his former employer, where things have not been going so well in recent years. That is not ideal for Formula 1.

''Formula 1 needs a competitive Ferrari, but I am convinced they can step up again in 2021. They have worked on the engine and I expect them to be closer to wins than this year. I am not alone in that, as Toto Wolff and Christian Horner also expect a stronger Ferrari,'' Domenicali told Sky Sports.

Hamilton's future

Ferrari is a major mainstay of Formula 1, but in recent years so has Lewis Hamilton. However, he still has no contract. ''It's not up to me whether he will sign or not, but there is a huge opportunity for him to win the eighth world title, passing Michael Schumacher.''

''I also believe that Hamilton wants to continue working on things outside of Formula One. Of course you can do that as an ex-driver, but as an active driver you reach more people. I hope something will be announced soon about Mercedes and Hamilton," the Italian concluded.
