Red Bull is anxiously waiting to see whether the development of the engines will be frozen from as early as 2022. That is when Red Bull will take over Honda's engine project. In any case, it will have the support of Mercedes.

Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri are without an engine from 2022 onwards. Honda has decided to pull the plug on the Formula 1 project, so Red Bull has to find a solution. The team is willing to buy the project from Honda, but does not want to invest millions in the development of the engine.

Wolff supports Red Bull

That is why Red Bull wants to freeze engine development as early as 2022. The current regulations indicate that this will not happen until 2023, but Red Bull does not want to go along with that. While Ferrari and Renault are struggling to cooperate with this, Toto Wolff says he fully supports the idea.

''If freezing engine development is necessary to keep Red Bull Honda alive, then we will support that. As teams we must try to stay together in Formula 1. Red Bull's project is ambitious, but I think they can do it. That is why we are in favour of the freeze,'' Wolff told German RTL.
