Renault is looking for customers to supply power sources to in F1. Currently, the only factory team using the Renault engine is Alpine F1. Finding customers appears to be a crucial step if only to offer broader perspectives to its F2-talents. At the moment, however, only Williams seems available to buy materials from the French factory.

Renault wants customers

Nobody buys Renault power sources in F1 anymore. Every team has already been supplied. Only Williams seems to have some interest left. As reported by Motorsport.com, first contact between the two parties is already rumoured to have taken place.

Such collaboration will not happen overnight. There are some obstacles to overcome. Firstly, since the development of the 2022 cars has already begun, it is of importance that the materials are finished and working before then. After all, the materials have to fit together perfectly.

Little to gain for Williams

Secondly, Williams has already indicated that from 2022 onwards its cooperation with Mercedes is set to get even closer. The team from Grove will then also buy gearboxes and other components from Mercedes to reduce costs.

Finally, it is still unknown territory for Renault to supply more than just the power source. In the past, the French team only supplied the engines and the customers had to take care of their own gearbox and other components. Renault will have to work hard if it wants to achieve this important goal.
