Kevin Magnussen will compete in the IMSA this year, which is a new step in his career after it appeared there was no longer room for him at the Haas Formula One team. On Monday, it was announced that the Dane will compete in the World Endurance Cup on behalf of Peugeot next year, so he's good to go for now. Is a return to Formula 1 in the cards, though?

WEC participation Magnussen

The Danish driver announced on Monday that he will race for Peugeot Sport in the WEC in 2022. What that means for his participation in IMSA next year is not clear, but it looks like he will only race in that championship for one year. This also gives Magnussen a longer-term perspective, after all, he will continue to race.

Returning to Haas

However, with his experience, he could provide a strong back-up. About this, Guenther Steiner indicated that he has not contacted either Magnussen or Grosjean, but that he expects both drivers would be interested. This is in case Nikita Mazepin or Mick Schumacher drop out due to, for example, a coronavirus infection.

Logically, Magnussen was asked for his reaction. "Guenther is a good friend, as are many other people at Haas. But a one-off appearance, I have no interest in that," Magnussen told Motorsport.com. The reason is quite simple, he doesn't see much point in a one-off appearance in Formula 1. In other words, he doesn't get much out of it.

An interesting offer

Still, he doesn't completely rule out a return, but it would have to be an interesting offer. From Mercedes, for example. "If they make a proposal and ask if I want to drive, I would seriously look at it. But I gave Formula 1 a nice chance, I did my best to be successful there."
