It is common knowledge that Valentino Rossi has long been in the picture as a possible driver for Ferrari. However, those days are now over and now the Italian legend can watch his favourite team in 2021.

Between 2005 and 2009, Ferrari and Valentino Rossi were in frequent contact. The Italian powerhouse allowed Rossi to test several times and the MotoGP rider made an impression, but there was never any further deal. However, according to Rossi, there were plans which details to the Italian media Corriere della Sera.

Advice for Ferrari

''I had done a series of tests for Ferrari and sat down with the management. They had a plan for a career in Formula 1, but in that plan, I was also in a slower car, and I started as a test driver. That's why I turned down the offer," says the seven-time world champion.

''I like Ferrari and I like Charles Leclerc very much. I think he is one of the strongest drivers on the grid. Ferrari need people who want to win races and in Maranello, they need to build a good car. Like Red Bull Racing, Ferrari needs to make things difficult for Mercedes in 2021," concludes Rossi.
