There is a major influx of British drivers in Formula E this season, with seven of the 24 driving under the British flag and as we head into a race weekend, all will be cheered on by their native fans. Who should British race fans look out for in Valencia?

Sam Bird, Jaguar Racing

Bird currently sits first overall in the Driver Standings in Formula E and is looking to win his first-ever championship in his seven-year career in the sport. The Jaguar driving joined Formula E in its inaugural season and has been a key feature at the top of the grid throughout his career. So far this season, Bird and his teammate, Mitch Evans, have been the top-two. With a win and a second-place already to his name, Bird will be looking to secure more podium places and extend his lead at the top.

Alexander Sims, Mahindra Racing

Sims currently sits ninth overall in the Driver Standings but will be hoping for a strong push this weekend to bridge the gap to his British counterpart leading the way. The 33-year-old Mahindra driver has had a slow start in a season where the team was hoping to push for a World Championship. However, a second-place finish in Rome in Round 4, has meant that a potential championship push is still on for Sims in the Driver Standings. This is the Londoners third season in Formula E.

Oliver Rowland, Nissan e.Dams

Rowland currently sits 12th overall in the Driver Standings but has scored points in three of the four races this season. A DNF in Round 4 was his only non-scoring drive so far. The 28-year-old has been driving full-time for Nissan e.Dams since 2018 and has a win and three podiums to his name. In the 2017 season, the fast Brit finished third overall in Formula 2, his best season in the racing to date. Despite scoring points in 75% of the races this season, he only has 15 to his name. He will hope to better his sixth-place finish in the season opener in Valencia.

Oliver Turvey, NIO 333 Formula E team

Turvey currently sits 17th overall in the Driver Standings but scored all his points earlier this month in Rounds 1 and 2 in Saudi Arabia. The 34-year-old driver has already exceeded his performance from last season, where he finished on zero points, so will be hoping to push for more this weekend in Valencia. A sixth-place in Round 2 is Turvey’s best drive so far this season and he currently sits two places and four points above his teammate Tom Blomqvist.

Tom Blomqvist, NIO 333 Formula E team

Blomqvist, Turvey’s teammate, currently sits 19th overall in the Driver Standings and will be hopeful for a strong performance in Valencia this weekend to move up the standings. The 27-year-old has 12 races of Formula E experience over three seasons and achieved his best finish in Rome in Round 4. The former Formula 3 driver will be looking to continue his scoring run and leap his teammate come Sunday evening.

Alex Lynn, Mahindra Racing

Lynn, Alexander Sims’ teammate, currently sits 20th overall in the Driver Standings and be very hopeful for a strong run of performances, starting this weekend in the Valencia E-Prix. The season-opening weekend didn’t start well for the 27-year-old, as the Mahindra driver DNF’d in both rounds in Saudi Arabia. However, an eighth-place finish in Round 3 kickstarted the Brit’s season and will give him hope to continue scoring points.

Jake Dennis, BMW i Andretti Motorsport

Dennis’ debut season in Formula E hasn’t gone to plan as he currently sits 24th overall in the Driver Standings. Four races into the season and Dennis is yet to record a point, but the 25-year-old will be hoping to put his car in the points this season and secure his seat in the sport again next season.
