Tracklimits already a problem in Portimao: more than thirty times deleted in FP1
- GPblog.com
Last year track limits were a hot topic after Friday's race in Portimao. Almost every driver saw their lap times reduced due to going too wide in corners, of which the FIA carefully monitored whether all wheels stayed within the lines. This weekend the FIA has again installed such sensors in the track at Portimao and many drivers have already noticed this.
In FP1 more than thirty times things went wrong, whereby the names of Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly and Nikita Mazepin stand out. The Russian of Haas dropped no less than six lap times. Three times he did so by exceeding the limits in turn one and three times in turn four. Gasly and Leclerc both went outside the track five times, where this is not allowed.
More deleted times in FP2?
The Monegasque did so three times in turn one and twice in turn four. Gasly was able to keep his car inside the track for the entire session but clearly had more trouble in Turn 4. All five of his cleared times can be traced back to turn four. Among the top teams, it was only Valtteri Bottas who saw his time taken away once at turn one.
