With much debate surrounding the flexi-wing used by Red Bull Racing the focus is certainly now on the rear part of the car in Azerbaijan. It appears that for the Baku Grand Prix the team have brought a new wing that is quite different from the ones we have seen at previous Grands Prix.

Not afraid of protest

Mercedes have indicated that they would protest against Red Bull Racing's rear wing if it was still 'flexi' in Baku. The team seems to be backtracking on that though and although this new wing may be quickly associated with that, it is not the case. Red Bull seemingly doesn't take much notice of the Mercedes expressions.

The main differences in this rear wing are in the wing endplates, which are flat without any of the normal slots. The wing endplate is also a lot simpler than we have seen before. The comparison photos below show the differences as well as the illustration from the side.

The main idea is that the track in Baku requires less downforce and this wing should offer the best solution. Whether this is the final rear wing with which the RB16B will be in action this weekend is not yet known.
