On the circuit of Baku there are often surprises, but the qualifying for the Grand Prix of Baku 2021 was all over the place, with a record equalling four red flags. These are the positions the drivers will start tomorrow.

In the final free practice session, Max Verstappen crashed into the wall at Turn 15 and that corner on the track proved to be a huge factor in the qualifying session that followed. On the street circuit of Baku, the red flag was shown no less than four times by the marshals, with the last one ensuring pole position for Charles Leclerc.

A golden slipstream?

The Monegasque surprisingly set the fastest lap during the first run in Q3 after receiving a tow from Lewis Hamilton. Max Verstappen was in second place at the time, but both Mercedes drivers decided to put in another lap straight away, with Lewis Hamilton taking over second place.

But Leclerc is not the only surprise, because Pierre Gasly will start the race from the fourth position. The AlphaTauri driver decided to run an alternative strategy and it paid off. Valtteri Bottas won't be able to do much for his team tomorrow, as the Finn will only start from P10. The full grid for tomorrow is as follows:
