Max Verstappen expected far more from the qualifying session in Baku. In the practice sessions it looked good for the Dutchman, but on Saturday afternoon he couldn't go quicker than P3 due to an unfortunate red flag.

In front of the Ziggo Sport camera, Max Verstappen is clearly not satisfied. "It was just a frustrating qualifying. What happened in the third practice session was just shitty, but in the end it didn't change anything about the performance in qualifying", the Dutchman explained.

In FP3, the Dutchman himself crashed, prompting Red Bull to quickly work on his car, and he reavled that: "I had some problems with braking all the time. I was blocking very quickly up front the whole time and I just wanted to push a bit more. When you block there and late like that, you can't steer to the right either."

Qualifying full of red flags

Not only in practice were there red flags, there were red flags in qualifying as well. Four of them, with the last one being very unfavourable for Verstappen. "It's the same for everyone, but of course it's more what happens in Q3. The car was good in itself, but all the time I had no slipstream towards the line, which of course the other two had. That is of course very important here. Sometimes things just happen and then you get that time. We have a good car, but it is a pity we are third. Hopefully we can do something about it tomorrow.

During the Monaco Grand Prix overtaking was almost impossible, but the chances for that seem better in Baku. "Following is of course just as difficult here and if you get close, then your tyres still burn out. Only when the others get problems with their tyres, then you can do something. Normally you can't do it on your own here," concluded Verstappen.
