George Russell says a scoreless season for Williams does not immediately mean a bad season. The Brit says getting points with the Williams in 2021 is like winning with a McLaren in 2021.

Season not easily ruined

Russell's season at Williams has had its ups and downs. On Saturday, the young Briton is very fast and has managed to qualify his Williams in Q2 every weekend so far. But on Sunday Williams are regularly dropping back in the field. No points have been scored yet this year, but Russell isn't too bothered about it.

"It doesn't bother me, no, but it's certainly a goal" Russell said in an interview with Autosport. "If we end this season pointless - I would not have seen this season as a failure. If we end the season with some points, I think it would have been a great success."

Comparison with McLaren

"Points for us is, effectively, a win for McLaren. If McLaren go this whole season without winning a race, we're not gonna see that as a failure." said the former Formula 2 champion. Russell knows that scoring points will be very difficult in 2021. He himself was close in Imola, but he crashed on lap 31 fighting with Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas.
