There have been rumours that Sergio Perez will have to start from the back, but now the FIA has announced that Red Bull Racing's Mexican will have to start from the pitlane. His entire engine will be replaced for a new specification, the fourth in line. Perez is not the only one who will have to start from the pitlane as Nicholas Latifi has also had to replace parts outside of the Parc Ferme regulations.

Poor qualifying result

After a disappointing qualifying, things didn't look good for Perez, who should have started from 16th place. After the engine change, he will therefore start from the pitlane together with Nicholas Latifi, after the Canadian shot hard into the wall with his car in the end of Q2. He gets a new gearbox and a new front wing of a different specification and therefore also starts from the pit lane.

Latifi will probably start for the Red Bull driver, as his original starting position was higher than Perez.

The Red Bull driver needed to take an engine penalty at some point this season, following previous issues. Christian Horner's team are using a poor qualifying result as as an attempt to minimise the punishment for Perez later down the line.
