Hamilton ready to pounce: 'We have to try and capitalise on it'
- Toby McLuskie
Lewis Hamilton didn't have the nicest ending to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, when Max Verstappen took him out, ending both their races. However, with Verstappen being handed a penalty and then taking a further penalty, the Mercedes driver knows it's the teams' chance to push for a strong showing in Sochi.
"It's a shame for him for sure, but we have to try and capitalise on it and get the best possible result," Hamilton told Motorsport-Magazin, "a one-two would be spectacular for us as a team."
Strong start in Sochi
So far it's all gone to plan for the seven-time World Champion and Mercedes in the race weekend in Russia. Hamilton has finished second in both practise sessions today, but behind only, his teammate, Valtteri Bottas. When asked about how he felt the sessions had gone, the Brit gave a structured but confident response, "the first run of the first session was the best. Since then we've adjusted a lot and it wasn't so good as soon as you start pushing."
Finishing by adding, "generally it was a good session. There's probably work to do in the long run."
