George Russell faces a big change in 2022: he makes the big jump to Mercedes, where he can fight for wins rather than a few points for a top ten position.

The way he introduced himself to Mercedes will not soon be forgotten. He sent Toto Wolff a PowerPoint presentation, outlining his CV and explaining why he wanted to join Mercedes' junior programme. This with the thought: 'The worst that can happen is that he doesn't respond'.

Challenge only begins now for Russell

"But he sent back after only 15 minutes that we should just make an appointment," Russell said in an interview with Bild. His parents taught him to work hard for his dreams. "I still have that attitude. Signing for Mercedes was one of the greatest moments of my life, but it's only the first step," continued the young Brit.

"I would be stupid to think that it is easy to drive for a team like Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton.

"Of course I'm happy, but I also know that it's only really starting now. It's going to be the biggest challenge I've ever had."
