Fernando Alonso returned to Formula 1 this season. In the past, the Spaniard was active for Ferrari, for whom he raced between 2010 and 2014. Alonso looks back on that period with great pleasure.

At the time, the current Alpine driver had to watch as Red Bull Racing achieved complete dominance. With Sebastian Vettel in their ranks, the Austrians won a run of four world championships, while Ferrari just couldn't manage to finish the season victorious.

"In 2012, he was even a little lucky in the last race to still finish the race with a badly damaged Red Bull," Alonso recalled in conversation with Motorsportweek.com. "We both tried Ferrari, got close at times, but didn’t make it in the end. Maybe Ferrari wasn’t ready to have a world champion in the cockpit again when we were racing. "

Alonso sees a clear change at the Italian team. Whereas in the past it often thought of the short term, that is different nowadays. "I think now they’ve changed their planning. Expectations are no longer so high, they’re racing with young drivers. They now tend to think in longer periods, no longer in the short-term."
