Max Verstappen's first F1 title is closer than ever. In his battle to become the 34th F1 champion, he will take on perhaps the strongest rival imaginable, Lewis Hamilton, in 2021. Verstappen is confident of his own abilities, but sees his destiny lies in the RB16B.
Verstappen doesn't have it in his own hands
Ahead of the Mexico Grand Prix, Verstappen spoke about his chances of taking the title in 2021. In the interview at the website of the British Circuit Goodwood, Verstappen sounds very confident:
"I know if my car is fast enough until the end of the season, I will win the championship." With four races to go, the Dutchman is particularly well on his way. Only his contender for the title is not the least. Hamilton is lurking.
Verstappen continued: "I would be very disappointed if I had the fastest car and didn't win. If I lose because I don't have the fastest car, what can you do?" With more than a hundred points still to be distributed, the rivals are still on edge. Red Bull needs to deliver flawlessly and Verstappen needs to perform flawlessly to take the title.
