Lewis Hamilton dominated qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix. The Briton left rival Max Verstappen almost half a second behind and took pole position. Formula 1 analyst Peter Windsor thinks the Red Bull Racing of Verstappen had too little rear wing.

The Problems of Red Bull

Hamilton drove by far the fastest time on the grid on Saturday, while Verstappen experienced problems with his DRS system. "But anyway, they got that sorted," says Windsor in his YouTube video. "but he was kind of behind the music in terms of when they were doing their runs."

"It looks as if they're running too little wing. They're too quick on the straight relative to Mercedes, and they're not quick enough on the medium high speed corners relative to Mercedes," explained Windsor. Red Bull does take the advantage in the slower corners.

Mercedes grabbing advantage since Silverstone

"Why Red Bull have got into that situation is difficult to tell. I guess the DRS issues haven't helped," says Windsor. The analyst says Mercedes have been grabbing an advantage over Red Bull since the tyres introduced by Pirelli at Silverstone.

"They [Mercedes] are starting to understand what is happening at the back of their car. They're tuning that car race by race to that much more stable rear that they've been able to enjoy from Silverstone onwards," Windsor concludes.
