When it was announced in 2019 that the Dutch Grand Prix would return to Circuit Zandvoort a year later, everyone already knew that the current circuit needed to be modified here and there. They wanted to do this without losing the character of the circuit.

With this philosophy they found a perfect partner in circuit designer Jarno Zaffelli, the founder of Dromo, the company that eventually took care of the renovation of Zandvoort.

Other circuit builders had a more conventional approach

His vision for a Zandvoort that is ready for Formula 1 fitted better with the wishes of the organizers than other circuit builders. Generally speaking, they wanted to lay a lot of asphalt runways.

Although the Grand Prix in 2020 can unfortunately not go ahead, there is now a circuit in the dunes that is completely ready for the event. How this came about and the challenges that had to be overcome are well shown in this video.
