Lando Norris was on course for second place and still had a chance of winning the Qatar Grand Prix, but a hefty penalty from the FIA took the McLaren driver out of the race. Max Verstappen initially reported him to race control, but Norris can understand that.

Norris blames Verstappen for nothing

Speaking to GPblog, Norris admitted after the Formula 1 race that he 'f***ed it up'. He said he did not see the yellow flag but knows he should back off when the situation unfolds. Therefore, he accepts the penalty and cannot blame Verstappen for bringing the moment to the attention of race director Rui Marques.

"Good looking," said Norris, who can understand why Verstappen reported the offence. "That's what everyone does. I would do the same. Happy for him I would say," the Brit added about the Dutchman's victory.

Norris was given the heaviest penalty that can be imposed - barring a black flag or disqualification - but does not believe the penalty was too harsh. "No, it's fair. If I did what they said I did wrong, then good on them for giving the correct penalty," he explained.

The McLaren driver knows what could've been. "I didn't go up until the end, and we were quick. I did my best I could, but I'm disappointed to only get two points with the quickest car out there today," Norris concluded.
