Logistic problems in Shanghai: ‘Red Bull and McLaren affected’
Tyre supplier Pirelli and several Formula 1 teams face a major challenge as they face logistical problems during the move between Melbourne and Shanghai. Due to a major freight delay, the cars and other technical parts are not expected to arrive in Shanghai until late on Wednesday, making it a race against time for the second part of the season-opening double header.
After last weekend's Australian Grand Prix, the Chinese Grand Prix is on the calendar this week. Even if things run smoothly, this is a massive logistical task for all the teams. The FIA confirmed last night through a 'Race Director Note' that Pirelli was having logistical problems, and that Wednesday's curfew would be shortened for that reason. However, the problem appears to be considerably bigger.
Pirelli is not the only one hit by logistical problems, according to Kym Illman. Several Formula 1 teams are also said to be affected. "F1 CARS MISSING," wrote the photographer on Instagram, who is usually well-informed about the goings-on in the paddock. "Aircraft technical issues out of Australia have led to big delays in freight arriving into Shanghai for 4 teams. This freight is not expected into Shanghai until late this afternoon or early evening which is at least a day and a half behind schedule."
Problems for Red Bull and McLaren
"The four tech affected teams are Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes and Aston Martin but I understand the other teams have also been affected in less ways. It’s unsure what effect this will have on the teams getting a car on track by Friday but my guess is it will involve a couple of very late nights."
