Perez challenges coronavirus rules: 'It makes sense to have a discussion'

Sergio Perez thinks it is a good idea to discuss within Formula 1 how the sport wants to deal with infected drivers. According to the Mexican, they should be able to still get behind the wheel if they have contracted the virus.

The Formula 1 teams are preparing for the first race of the season in Bahrain, but Sebastian Vettel will not be on the track for the next few days. The German was told on Thursday that he has contracted the coronavirus and that he must therefore miss the first Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo suffered the same thing during testing, so Perez believes that the FIA should take a look at the current regulations. The teammate of Max Verstappen wants to keep the risk of infection as low as possible, but also believes that drivers with mild symptoms can just go on the track.

Perez wants to talk about corona rules

Perez therefore hopes that the FIA will soon give an opportunity to talk among themselves. "Going forward it's something that we should discuss, whether we allow the drivers to race with COVID, if the symptoms are mild," Perez told ESPN. "These days if you're feeling bad, obviously the drivers can be the judge, but I think it makes sense to have a discussion."
