Wolff on Hamilton's world title chances: 'This year or the next'

Lewis Hamilton faces another tough weekend with Mercedes. At the Miami Grand Prix, the German racing team hopes to make the next step, but for the time being a competitive battle between Red Bull Racing and Ferrari seems out of the question. For Toto Wolff, it is therefore hard work to give George Russell and Lewis Hamilton a car with which they can do something.
For Hamilton, in particular, the season has taken a lot of getting used to. Whereas he had been consistently battling for victories every year since 2014, in the last race in Imola he even had to settle for a final spot outside the top ten. However, Wolff does not fear that Hamilton will lose his enjoyment of racing and quit Formula 1 after the season.
"I think he knows pretty well the time to retire," Wolff judges in conversation with Sky Sports. "Nobody can take the legend status anymore and we are here to provide him with a machine that is capable to win him his eighth title, whether it is this year or the next."
Confidence in Hamilton's qualities
According to Martin Brundle, Hamilton does radiate less enthusiasm during races. However, he thinks this is logical, as the driver is working on his last period in Formula 1. At the same time, Brundle sees that Hamilton still has enough qualities to fight among the top teams.
