Haas F1 has taken its first pole position in Formula 1 with Kevin Magnussen in Brazil. Team boss Guenther Steiner is over the moon with the result and spoke to Viaplay immediately after qualifying.

Magnussen provides reward at Haas team

On camera, the Haas team boss says: "It feels good. This is fantastic. We worked so hard. Then it started raining and well, at the right time Kevin put in a good lap. There were a lot of drivers outside around the same time and those drivers didn't punch in."

Steiner is happy because in his eyes it was not just luck with the rain and the red flag that allowed Magnussen to claim pole position. It wasn't luck, but it was a team effort: "Definitely. We were on the right tyres every time and watched the weather every time. This was good." Immediately after it became clear that Magnussen would retain the pole, Steiner was already hanging on the phone. With whom he called, he would not say: "I can't tell you that," Steiner laughed. "I'm not going to tell you either."

A major achievement for Haas after tough years

Finally, Steiner puts this achievement in perspective with the team's tough previous years: "It's important because the last two years were so tough. We worked so hard and were not lucky once. We always have appearances against us, for example with the black-and-orange flag. And now we are coming back like this. The team is showing how we are put together. We are not going to celebrate today because tomorrow is race day. We have to start focusing now and try to score points. It's a great day, but let's celebrate it another time. We have a dinner with the team in Abu Dhabi. Now let's focus on tomorrow."
