Michael Schumacher's records are about to fall, due to the dominance of Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. It immediately provides a comparison between the two greats and Fernando Alonso also has his opinion on this.

Fernando Alonso made his Formula 1 debut when Michael Schumacher was at his peak at Ferrari. Alonso would take his crown with Renault, but at McLaren he would have to deal with a young talent: Lewis Hamilton. So Alonso competed with both, but who does he think is the best driver?

Schumacher just a little bit better

''That's tricky. It is difficult to compare different times and cars. However, I remember Michael as a driver who was very difficult to beat. He had just that little bit extra. Lewis is very good and the best of his generation, but he didn't win the world title when he was a teammate of Jenson Button and also lost the game to Nico Rosberg in 2016," said Alonso to Sport Bild.

''Michael never had moments like that. He always won, so for me Michael is one step ahead of Hamilton," says Alonso. Between 1992 and 2006 (the seasons that Schumacher was fully active), he only lost the game to Eddie Ervine in 1999, but even then he was out of the season for a long time due to an injury. Between 2010 and 2012 Schumacher did lose every year to Rosberg, but that was after the seven-time world champion disappeared from the sport for three years.
