Helmut Marko has indicated that Max Verstappen did not drive a perfect last lap in Brazil. However, the gap between the RB16B and the W12 of Mercedes was too big, even with a perfect lap.

Verstappen falls short of Hamilton

Verstappen had to settle for second place during qualifying. The Dutchman came more than four tenths short of Lewis Hamilton, but managed to qualify ahead of Valtteri Bottas. As a result, Verstappen is on the front row of the grid for Saturday's sprint qualifying.

''It was not an ideal lap of Max in Q3. The gap would be 0.2s with a good lap, which is still very much. We didn't manage to find the ideal setup. However, we are more than satisfied if we finish P2 and P3 in the sprint race tomorrow'', the Austrian is referring to a third place for Perez.
