Weekly Roundup | Driver changes, Mazepin controversy, & FIA Prize Giving
The first week of the off-season may have meant no action on the track, but off it there was still plenty going on, from driver changes to the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony, it was another busy week in the pinnacle of motorsport.
Perez replaces Albon, Tsunoda in at Alpha Tauri
Sergio Perez's good form in his last season with Racing Point has got him a coveted seat in Formula 1 next season. He'll partner Max Verstappen after Red Bull opted to replace Alex Albon with the Mexican. Albon will become their reserve and test driver.
Yuki Tsunoda will replace Daniil Kvyat at Alpha Tauri next season after just one season in Formula 2. The Japanese driver finished third in the drivers' standings in F2 but makes the step up to the pinnacle of motorsport.
Mazepin under fire
The pressure is growing on Haas and Formula 1 to take action against Nikita Mazepin after he deleted his apology for videos he posted on social media. Haas initially said the matter would be dealt with internally but we are yet to hear anything since the Russian deleted his apology. Mazepin is set to partner Mick Schumacher at Haas next season.
FIA Prize Giving Ceremony
Lewis Hamilton was presented with his seventh Drivers' Championship at the annual FIA Prize Giving Ceremony. The Brit and Michael Schumacher were also presented with the Special President's Award, for their joint achievement in seven World Championships.
