Herbert: Verstappen was 'motivated to show his ability' due to penalties

Johnny Herbert claims he and the rest of the FIA stewards at the Mexican Grand Prix weekend motivated Max Verstappen to get a strong result in Brazil. The former British F1 driver also suggests he was motivated by his poor qualifying performance on Sunday morning.
Herbert: 'Verstappen extra driven by penalties Mexico'
"I wouldn’t be surprised. He is always very fired up and motivated. He had a bit of a mare in qualifying which put him in the position in which he started and that just ensured he had to show the world his natural ability and what makes him so special," the Brit told Safest Betting Sites.
"Those little hiccups as we could call what happened in Mexico are something that don’t affect him. Fans around the world, like myself, just want to see that pure natural racing ability and on Sunday that was it," he added.
'Verstappen showed why he is one of the all-time greats'
Herbert stresses that in conditions like we saw at Interlagos, the pure talent of F1 driver comes to the fore. "A lot of drivers on Saturday and Sunday were saying that the cars were ‘nervous’ and there wasn’t much grip. That is where the skill comes in. In the wet, there is very limited grip and you’re the one that has got to be able to thread the car through the eye of the needle," he said.
"Max, like all the greats, has this incredible feel through the tips of their fingers on the steering wheel and the tips of their toes on the pedal and they are at one with the rest of the car which is how he can drive on the very edge. When it is tricky you see the best float to the top," he concluded.
